When you host a Quiz live or assign it as an asynchronous activity, Quizizz for Work offers you a number of settings that you can customize according to your needs. These settings include shuffling the order of questions, limiting the number of participant attempts, enabling memes, and so much more.

How to modify game settings for a Quiz

  1. Select the Quiz that you would like to host
  2. Choose the 'Start Live Session' or 'Assign Activity' option. Now, you'll be able to see all the  game settings available
  3. Interact with the drop-down menus and toggles to customize the settings as you'd like, and then click on 'Continue'

Game settings available for a Quiz

Primary Settings

Set session start time

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • By enabling this setting, you can set the date and time at which you want the quiz to begin. You can schedule an activity up to 30 days in advance.

Deadline

  • Available on Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • With this setting, you can choose the date and time beyond which your participants will no longer be able to attempt the quiz.

Require participants to log in

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • When enabled, this setting makes it mandatory for participants to log in to attempt the quiz. This makes it easier to track individual performance.

Set participant quiz attempts

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Test, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • This setting lets you control the number of times participants can attempt a quiz. If you set this to 'unlimited', participants will not have to log in.
  • However, if you do limit the number of participant attempts, they will have to log into their Quizizz account to attempt the game

Add custom branding

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • The Premier and Enterprise plans on Quizizz for Work enable you to customize your Quizzes by adding your brand logo and colors.
  • By clicking on 'Update' in this setting, you can upload your company's logo and set a background color of your choice for the Leaderboard. To learn more, refer to our article on custom branding

Show correct answer after each question

  • Available on Participant-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • This setting controls the feedback that participants see right after answering a question.
  • If set to OFF, participants will not see the correct answer after each question. They will also not know if they have given the correct answer immediately after attempting a question.
  • If set to Validate only, participants will get to know whether or not they have answered a question correctly. But, they will not be shown the correct answer if they answered a question incorrectly.
  • If set to ON, participants will see whether or not they answered a question correctly, and they will be shown the corÌ¥rect answer if they answered incorrectly.

Allow participants to view answers after completion

  • Available on Participant-paced, Test, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • This setting controls the display of the review section for participants at the end of the game.
  • Turn this ON to allow them to review the questions and their correct answers.
  • Select Questions only to allow your participants to see only the question and answer options. Here, the correct answer won't be highlighted.
  • Turn this OFF if you don't want participants to review the questions or answers after the quiz.

Shuffle questions

  • Available on Participant-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • If this is toggled ON, each of your participants will see the quiz questions in a different order. This makes it difficult for participants to 'get help' from each other (ergo, no cheating!)
  • Toggle to turn this OFF if you want questions to appear in the original order for everyone.

Shuffle answer options

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • With this setting turned ON, the answer options will be shuffled for each question. That means each participant will see a different order of answer options for a given question.
  • Turn this setting OFF if you want the answer options to appear in the original order for everyone.

Show question timer

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • If this setting is turned OFF, the timer will be disabled for participants. Every correct answer will fetch a score of 1000, regardless of the time taken to attempt the question
  • If this is set to Default Timer, participants will be able to see a countdown timer on their screens. They will get a score of 600 for every correct answer. And, they will get an additional score of up to 400 based on their response speed. Here, answers can be submitted even after the timer runs out.
  • When set to Test Timer, the scoring will work in the same way as with the Default Timer. That means participants will get a score of 600 for correct answers and an additional score of up to 400 based on their speed. However, once the timer has run out, the question will be 'timed out' and participants will no longer be able to attempt it.
  • Note: All incorrect answers and timed-out questions get 0 points and score.

Set compliance goal

  • Available on Compliance training mode
  • When this setting is turned ON, you can set an accuracy or compliance target that must be met by your participants. This will allow participants to reattempt incorrectly answered questions until they meet this target.
  • You can choose between 60% to 100% accuracy. You can also set the number of times participants can reattempt incorrectly answered questions to meet this compliance goal.

Gamification Settings

Power-ups

  • Available on Participant-paced, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • Enabling this setting will allow participants to deploy power-ups while attempting questions.
  • On Quizizz, Power-ups can help boost scores or add an element of challenge to the game. For example, the 2X Power-up gives participants twice the score if they answer a question correctly.
  • Power-ups affect game scores and may influence leaderboard ranks. However, they do not impact accuracy points. To learn more, refer to our article on Power-ups and their types.

Show leaderboard on participant devices

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • If this setting is turned ON, participants will see a leaderboard at regular intervals during the quiz. This leaderboard will allow participants to view each others' scores and ranks.
  • Turn this OFF if you are not keen on making the quiz competitive.

Allow participant reactions in game lobby

  • Available on Participant-paced mode
  • When enabled, this setting allows participants to express themselves with fun images and stickers as they wait for a live quiz to begin. They can also do this at the end of the quiz on the summary screen that displays their results.

Background music

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • Toggle this setting to enable Quizizz music to be played on participants' devices.

Show memes after each question

  • Available on Participant-paced, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • If this setting is turned ON, participants will see funny images (called memes) after each question. You can also create your own meme sets!

Auto-generate virtual names

  • Available on Participant-paced, Instructor-paced, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • When this setting is enabled, Quizizz will generate creative names for your participants to use when they join a quiz. It's designed to avoid wasted time while keeping things light and fun.

Set number of teams

  • Available on Team vs Team mode
  • You can use this setting to divide your participants into 2-8 groups

Assessment Settings

Skip questions & attempt later

  • Available on Participant-paced, Test, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • When this setting is toggled ON, participants can skip questions and return to them later in the quiz. It allows them to tackle the quiz strategically by attempting the questions they find challenging at the end of the quiz.
  • When this setting is toggled OFF, participants will have to answer questions in the order presented to them.

Redemption Quiz

  • Available on Self-study assignment and Compliance training modes
  • By enabling this setting, you can allow participants to improve their accuracy by reattempting all the questions that they answered incorrectly. These questions will be presented to participants at the end of the quiz.

Re-attempt a question

  • Available on Participant-paced, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • Turn this setting ON to enable participants to reattempt any one question that they answered incorrectly. This question will appear at the end of the quiz.

Extra life

  • Available on Participant-paced, Team vs Team, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • When this setting is turned ON, it gives participants one more chance to attempt a question that they answered incorrectly. They will be able to reattempt the question immediately, and will not have to wait until the end of the quiz.
  • Extra-life is only applicable for the following question types: Match, Reorder, Drag and Drop, Drop-down, Labeling, and Categorize

Review and Submit

  • Available on Test mode
  • By enabling this option, you can allow participants to mark questions so they can return to review them at the end of the quiz. This will help them view and change their answers before submitting their quiz.

Adaptive question bank mode

  • Available on Participant-paced, Test, Self-study assignment, and Compliance training modes
  • The Adaptive Question Bank mode enables your participants to see a unique combination of questions from your quiz every time they attempt the activity. This reinforces their understanding of concepts while preventing them from copying each other's answers.
  • When you enable this feature, you can choose how many questions you want your participants to answer per quiz attempt. For instance, if your quiz has 30 questions, you can enable participants to see only 8 questions in every attempt. This combination of 8 questions will be unique each time they attempt the quiz.

Focus mode

  • Available on Test mode
  • When this setting is toggled ON, you will be notified if a participant switches tabs or tries to open another tab while attempting the quiz.
